Medicaid and Medicare Dental Coverage in Aventura, an Honest Guide

Public dental coverage in Florida is a patchwork, and pretending otherwise helps no one. Adult Medicaid dental here is limited and emergency-oriented, children get full coverage, Original Medicare covers almost no dentistry at all, and only certain Medicare Advantage plans fill the gap. If you are in Aventura trying to use any of these, here is how the pieces actually fit, plus the membership-plan route that works when none of them do.

Adult Medicaid, what it covers and what it does not

Florida's base adult Medicaid dental benefit centers on emergencies and essentials: extractions, exams, and dentures. Routine fillings, crowns, and preventive cleanings generally fall outside the base benefit, though expanded benefits are possible with prior approval depending on your plan.

The delivery system is its own maze. Florida runs dental through a separate statewide Prepaid Dental Health Program, apart from your medical plan, and as of 2026 two statewide plans administer it: DentaQuest of Florida and Liberty Dental Plan of Florida. Your first move is not calling dental offices. It is checking which of the two plans you are enrolled in, then using that plan's own provider directory, because a dentist who takes DentaQuest may not take Liberty, and vice versa.

Now the honest part. Very few Aventura dental offices publish Medicaid participation on their websites, and none of the 22 practices we profile lists it explicitly. That does not prove none participate, but it means Aventura is a thin market for adult Medicaid dentistry, which is common in affluent areas. Your plan's directory may point you to offices in North Miami, Ojus, or Hallandale Beach instead. Budget travel time accordingly.

Kids are a different story

Children on Medicaid or CHIP get full dental coverage in Florida, including cleanings, fillings, and preventive care, through the same two statewide dental plans. Coverage is not the bottleneck for kids. Finding a participating pediatric office is, so start from the plan directory and cross-reference it against our list of pediatric dentists in Aventura . Aventura's pediatric practices include offices that treat children from age one and accommodate patients with developmental disabilities, and with fluoride now gone from Miami-Dade tap water, keeping kids' preventive visits on schedule matters more than it did two years ago. Our piece on what the fluoride change means for Aventura families covers that side in full.

What Medicare actually pays for

Original Medicare, Parts A and B, excludes routine dental care almost entirely. No cleanings, no fillings, no dentures. The exceptions are narrow, generally limited to dental work tangled up with a covered medical procedure, and none of them help with the maintenance dentistry that keeps retirees out of trouble.

Dental benefits for seniors come through Medicare Advantage plans instead, which bundle varying levels of dental coverage, each with its own network, its own annual maximum, and its own fine print. Two identical-sounding Advantage plans can pay for very different amounts of dentistry, so read the dental rider before you pick a plan, not after a crown estimate lands on the counter.

Networks shift annually. Before booking anything, call your plan and confirm the office is in-network for your specific plan year. The confirmation takes five minutes and prevents the most common billing surprise in senior dentistry.

Where to go in Aventura

Three practical routes cover most situations, and they suit different cards in your wallet.

For Medicare Advantage holders, Dental Center at Aventura is the verified starting point. The Town Center plaza office takes most major insurance plus Medicare Advantage plans, the only such acceptance we could confirm among the 22 practices in our directory. It has operated for 23 years, accepts walk-ins, offers sedation, and currently advertises a $79 new-patient exam and x-ray special, a low-cost way to test the fit. Its sister office at the same address, Dental Specialty Center of Aventura , adds board-certified specialists in oral surgery, endodontics, and periodontics, useful when covered treatment turns surgical. Both operate in English and Spanish.

For the uninsured, Haratz Dental has built the most complete no-insurance route in the city. Its membership plans run $699 to $1,099 per year: the Essential tier includes two cleanings and two exams, Premiere includes three cleanings, and Enhanced includes four, and every tier carries 20% off procedures plus $100 off same-day treatment. On top of that, the practice takes HSA and FSA funds and offers CareCredit, Cherry, and Sunbit financing with 0% options, so a crown or extraction can be spread over months rather than paid in one hit. A $99 new-patient exam package keeps the entry cost low, and a free second opinion lets you sanity-check a treatment plan quoted elsewhere. The practical limits: it is a weekday-only office, and membership plans are not insurance, so major work still costs real money even at 20% off.

For predictable family budgets, Aventura Dentistry, the Wohlstein Dental Group office, sells in-house membership at $480 per year for individuals and $850 for families, the lowest posted membership prices in our directory, with Saturday appointments available. Dental Center at Aventura also runs its Smile Alliance Club discount plan alongside its insurance participation. The full comparison against insurance premiums lives in our teeth cleaning cost guide .

Membership plans do not solve major work. A crown or implant still costs real money under any of them. They do solve the maintenance layer, and maintenance is what keeps you out of the expensive layer.

How to actually find a participating dentist

Directory searching beats cold-calling offices, and the sequence matters. Check which carrier your card names, search that carrier's own directory for the 33180 zip code, then phone the office to confirm two things: that they still take the plan, and that they are accepting new patients under it. Published directories run stale, which is why the confirmation call is not optional.

Widen the radius early if the results come back thin. Ojus, North Miami Beach, and Hallandale Beach sit within a fifteen-minute drive and carry deeper participation than Aventura proper. For children the networks run meaningfully deeper than for adults, and pediatric offices are the most reliable participants in the program.

One question worth asking every office you call: what happens if treatment turns out to need something the plan does not cover. A practice that answers that clearly, with a cash price attached, is one you can plan around.

Start with one phone call

If you hold Medicaid, call DentaQuest or Liberty, whichever card is in your wallet, and pull the current provider list for the 33180 zip code. If you hold Medicare Advantage, call Dental Center at Aventura and confirm your plan. If you hold neither, price the membership tiers at Haratz Dental and Wohlstein against your actual visit habits. One call, whichever it is, moves you from guessing to booked.
